The main barn is home to all of Dark Horse Stables mares without a young foal and all male horses not at Stud. This stable is very large with 12 stalls divided up into two sections: the North Wing and the South Wing, by the indoor arena at the center entrance door and extending to the back wall of the stable.

This beautiful brick building was made specifically for the purpose of holding and giving comfort to stallions of all behavioral tendencies, sizes, and conditioning. The barn is 786 square feet (EA floor tiles) and can safely house 8 stallions up to 18Hh. Each stall is 16x18 with a rubber stall mat w/ edge lining and a 4 foot oak kick board with a metal rail lining to prevent chewing. We use pine wood shavings in our stallion stalls due to its easy clean-up and minimal dust factor. In each stall there is an automatic waterer, grill-style window to the outside, and a mounted hay feeder. The stallion barn also has a spacious tack room, feed room, and wash bay lined with rubber matting and warm water. There are also eight tack lockers for each of the stalls, a small bathroom, the stallion office, and a break room/kitchen.
This is a special building dedicated to the detection of mares in heat, breeding, and collecting for AI. The studs know what they're doing when they come into this building. On either side of the entrance are two outdoor covered stalls, one facing the main pasture, the other connected to the covered arena. The building has three rooms; a mid-way laundry room, a lab, and the large covering area with mats for good traction. There is a stall directly in front of the phantom mare and a wash area just beside the holding stall. For live cover, often the mare meets the stallion for the first time while shes in the stall attached to the arena, this way she does not need to be restrained and feel too pressured, if she is not ready, she can simply move to the far side of the stall. Breeding usually occurs in the arena attached to the stud facility and is never rushed, our stallions are trained to be well behaved for the comfort of the mare and safety of everyone involved.

The new indoor arena has a high ceiling and thick stone walls, considerably reducing the heat that inevitably accumulates in such a warm part of the country. Beautiful vines climb up the stained timber wood beams around the arena. Matching timber wood rub rail walls and banister compliment the cedar windows, completing the undeniable Spanish influence of the entire stable. This sand is considerably lower in maintenance than the outdoor arena. The floor is made up of a silica based fine sand mixed with a shipped adhesive textile to help bind the sand and keep the hooves from sinking too deeply thus using more effort to perform. In addition, using the adhesives in unison with a non-toxic chemical crystal that helps reduce watering minimizes the amount of dust indoors.
Beside the Stallion Barn is the 20 meter by 60 meter competition dressage arena framed in by dressage fencing. Great attention was paid to the sand specifications implemented in our arena. It was very important that the footing provide traction and support while also acting as a cushion. We use a combination of natural and manufactured sand, the majority being a natural sand that is relatively fine and angular shaped. The shape of this sand gives a good amount of support while its natural erosion from mountains makes it last far longer as an arena footing. The depth of the sand is approximately 2.5 inches and is on a high-maintenance schedule; being watered regularly and harrowed frequently. This arena is suitable for international level competitions.

The dirt race track is as large as they come, diagonally taking up from corner to corner a 64x64 lot.
Much of the ground work goes on in the round pen. etc etc will get to that later.
