Boarding Services
We have a knowledgeable, equine safety certified staff dedicated to the top quality care of your loved horse who are both professional and on-site at all times. We welcome all breeds and sizes at our barn and are prepared to board mares, geldings, and yearlings. You will have 24/7 access to your horse and can keep tabs on him or her through their own profile on our site. All horses entering our facility are wormed before meeting any of the other horses. Your horse must be up to date on all inoculations and given a clean bill of health by a licensed veterinarian in order to enter the stables. There is plenty of space for your tack in the barn and complementary parking for your trailer.
Full Board Package
Our Full Board Package provides top quality care for stable-kept horses and is the preferred package of our clients. Located at the front of the property, the Boarding barn is less than a 5 minute walk from the beach and a 10 minute drive to the town center. Each horse stays in a 12X14 matted stall with wood pellet bedding and is equipped with summer fans, automatic waterers and a small window. We cater to your feeding and care instructions and will blanket/boot/etc. your horse for turnout if and when desired. Access to both private and large group turnout pastures can be scheduled 4 hours in the morning and/or 4 hours in the afternoon. Stalls are cleaned twice daily, 7 days a week. Pasture hay is provided both AM and PM unless specified otherwise. Premium quality hay is fed twice daily and grain is fed twice a day with any requested owner supplied supplements. Coordinated ferrier, veterinary, and dental program in place. $475 per month, per horse. Pasture Board Package The Pasture Board Package is for the horse that loves to be outside in it's natural environment. This is a 24 hour small herd in one of our huge pastures with 2 12X24 shelters and large tree. The tall, sturdy wooden fencing coated in a protective paint can handle even the harshest kicks. All corners have been fenced off at angles to prevent any from becoming trapped by more dominant horses. Hay is provided 24 hours a day along with salt licks and mineral blocks and occasional grains. All pastures are checked daily to insure the safety of the horses. Dusting spots and a filtered pond are provided for the comfort of the horse as well as two water troughs. Additional single or buddy paddocks available. $295 per month, per horse. |
Volunteer Opportunities
Dark Horse Stables is always looking for volunteers to help with all of the work that comes with running such a large stable. Are you wanting to work hands-on with horses and learn the procedures of daily stable management? Do you have the time and transportation to devote a few hours a week to caring for horses? Is there a specific area like Training, Breeding, or Foal Development you want to learn about? Then our volunteer program is just what you may be searching for.
We accept volunteers of all experience levels. The tasks require heavy lifting and applicants should be in good physical condition. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and pay for their own transportation (ferry). Volunteers can gain valuable experience with horses through our program, but it is not designed as a teaching/riding opportunity for riding lessons, horsemanship, ground lessons, etc.
What do Volunteers do?
Activities vary depending on how many horses are at each stable, breedings, and competition schedules but in general, volunteers can expect to:
